Con Men in Second Life

What is Second Life?

Second Life is virtual game, based on subscription, launched for the public in 2003 by Linden Labs, a company based in San Francisco and created by Philip Rosedale, the ex CEO from Real Networks. The Second Life virtual world is actually a network of servers owned and administrated by Linden Labs, also known as a 'grid'. Second Life offers its clients which are called residents, tools through which they can modify the virtual world and through which they can participate in its economy, economy that already started to gain importance in the real world.

Linden labs declared that in September 2005, the economic activity in the Second Life society generated almost 3,5 million dollars. The Second Life world is inspired by Neal Stephenson's novel, 'Snow Crash' and the literary movement called 'cyber punk'.

If you want to be part of the Second Life world, all you have to do is create an account on the Second Life site and after that you will get the installation software. After the installation, you adventure in the virtual world begins.

If you want to start your new company, buy a car, rent a house, these are all possible in this simulation game.

You can also buy clothes or go to the bank. Clothing is a very important aspect that defines you and your virtual alter-ego, of course. Second Life fashion is taken very seriously.

A very interesting case about fashion in Second Life is the Ammon Pera avatar who became very controversial. Ammon Pera did numerous fraudulent things in the Second Life world and he got the 'Con Man of the Year' award for his behavior. The avatar born is 2007 managed to abuse the Linden system and created problems for other residents. Ammon Pera definitely achieved a new level of villain in Second Life, becoming more and more controversial every year.
