Second Life Events
Second Life events are the most important social interactions in the Second Life universe. Social events like fashion shows, concerts, gatherings, or live performances make the Second Life in-world a place to see and be seen. All Second Life events happen in real time. The presenter of the event or the performer if it’s a live show is providing real time information through voice or text. This is used when the event has a large group or a large audience.
Second Life events can also be streamed, meaning that they have been previously recorded and are shown in Second Life with a little delay from the real time. For example, this can apply for a music concert. If a band is playing in London, Second Life users can see the concert the next day in Second Life.
Second Life events also happen in special places named Second Life regions that limit the number of people that can attend to 100 avatars. Some events have a 30-50 accounts limit. If someone wishes to activate an event with a larger audience, he or she will have to stream the event to different regions, a process called simulcasting. Each region has its own audience, but all regions will be able to see or participate in the event.
Second Life residents can find events through their SL calendar. The in-world social database has community events, global events, holiday events. All the real restaurants and clubs that have built a correspondent in the Second Life universe will organize different social events. From ballrooms to club nights, the SL universe is as social as the real world when it comes to interaction between its residents. Social events are also useful for those who want to open a business in SL and wish to make a list of possible clients and contacts.
