What Is Fashion For?

Photobucket

With all the fashion blogs and bloggers in the metaverse today, it's easy to get confused as to what SL fashion is really for. Is it just so that people who don't have anything to do can have something to do? I admit that I used to be a shop-o-holic. I used to change at least once a day. I used to be adamant about not wearing anything twice.

Now, I really don't care. I'd rather wear something from inventory, something with prims that already fit. I'd rather spend 10 minutes going through my inventory to find something to wear than TP around to a zillion different sims, waiting for vendors to rez, getting disappointed when the stuff is not what I expected.

Just to remind everyone what fashion is really for, it's for your image, when your image is important. Recently, Natalie and I went to the SL6B press preview event. This event was pretty much total bedlam--as in disorganized, or at least, no formal agenda. Nevertheless, I still made an effort to show up in something that is what is going on in men's fashion right now. About the same time, Aradia Dielli invited me to the LeLutka Flickr group, and I had thought about posting a pic on their group, since I wore a LeLutka jacket to the press preview. Then I remembered that I'm not a fashion blogger--no offense to fashion bloggers, you all do a great service to everyone, but it's not my thing. Since so much of fashion is dedicated to women, and men's fashion seems to be hit or miss, I'm going to go ahead and publish this article. (I know the pic isn't all that great, but I had decreased my quality for the event for lag control purposes.)

Starting with the basics, the skin is Redgrave, the hair I made myself. It's very annoying when I hear guys bitch about not being able to find hair they like. MAKE YOUR OWN, YOU HELPLESS CRYBABIES. Can you, or do you, style your own hair in RL? Can you rez and texture a prim? If the answers to these questions are "yes", then make your own hair and shut up about not being able to find decent men's hair. All the time you spend looking for hair and bitching about it could be spent making your own. I am an extremely busy avatar, and yet I still have time to flip my own wig.

The dark blue jacket is from LeLutka, and so is the prim belt buckle. They are called "Dean", and I wore them with pants from Ce Cubic Effect, with the prim bottoms. Black is not appropriate for summer time, unless you are going to a funeral. Also, pants that do not have prim bottoms are passe', unless you are expecting a flood.

The LeLutka stuff isn't cheap, and doesn't come with a shirt. The Ce Cubic pants are very low rise, so wearing a prim belt and finding a shirt on the shirt layer with an underwear layer shirt bottom is essential. Here, I wore Muism's OS shirt in white with blue stripe, and the cuffs are from Muism's OC shirt in white. I really hate wearing a tie if I don't have. Finishing it off are penny loafers from FNKY!, in brown.

There you have it. My fashion (yawn) article.
