What Natalie did next

Natalie is one of Second Life’s veterans. Playing on and off since 2006, she made a habit out of commenting how her life as a resident on the grid goes. From time to time she enters the grid and leaves a story for others to see every time she leaves.

For those of you who are not acquainted with these two terms, a little more information about Second Life is in order to understand. The ‘residents’ are the users who enter the game and that is their given name, while the ‘grid’ is basically the virtual reality within Second Life.

What Natalie did next was to tell a story about her recent interaction with Second Life and the other residents. It appears she is displeased about how Second Life has turned out as the number of users as increased so much over the past few years. Natalie observes how some people are in the game for a completely wrong set of reasons, making others uncomfortable at the same time.

Natalie says that she entered Second Life to take a look around at what had changed and what had not since the last time she had been on the grid. The overall impression was that many of the newcomers to Second Life had overdone some of the outfits and accessories, leaving nothing for the actual avatar to say. Avatars of both sexes seemed to look very much alike, while their wardrobe and accessories were over the top and were actually ruining the overall appearance.

In an attempt to start a conversation with someone to see how others think, not only dress, Natalie approached (or was approached) by a man. She was not happy with this after a while seeing as the man was more interested in her real-life identity instead of her Second Life persona. General impressions were not on the positive side, but Natalie will continue to report her experiences for the sake of Second Life history.
